Your Guide to Free & Affordable Summer 2026 Events in the Vail Valley

Date: June 1, 2026
Author: Julie Block

Summer in the Vail Valley includes breathtaking mountain scenery, warm evenings in the village, and an events calendar packed with world-class experiences.

What it doesn't have to be? Expensive.

The Vail Valley Foundation produces some of the region's most beloved events, and a surprising number of them are completely free or remarkably affordable. Whether you're a year-round local, spending the season in the valley, or just visiting for a weekend, here's your complete guide to making the most of summer 2026 without breaking the bank.

GoPro Mountain Games | June 4–7, 2026

The GoPro Mountain Games returns to Vail June 4–7, and the vast majority of it won't cost you a thing.

All of the athletic competitions are free to spectate. That means you can watch mountain biking, trail running, speed climbing, disc golf, DockDogs, and more, all without spending a cent.

Beyond the competition, there's even more to explore at no cost:

  • Free kids' activities throughout the weekend, including a kids' climbing wall, a kids' kayak pool, and a kids' SUP pool — a perfect intro to mountain sports for young adventurers.
  • Free daytime music in Vail Village and Golden Peak all weekend long, featuring live bands and artists playing throughout the day.
  • The CoLab Creator Stage, a hub for outdoor content creators, filmmakers, and athletes to connect, collaborate, and inspire.
  • Samples, giveaways, demos and more from top outdoor brands in BFGoodrich Gear Town.

For those who want to cap off their days with an evening concert, the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater hosts the Mountains of Music Concert Series, with tickets ranging from just $25-$50 (including fees). It's a wonderful way to extend a full day of free outdoor festivities into a memorable night under the stars.

Vilar Performing Arts Center: Love for the Locals

The Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek has its own program designed with the local community in mind: Love for the Locals.

This series features specially curated performances at accessible price points, making it easier for valley residents to experience the magic of live performance at the Vilar throughout the year. Each Love for the Locals ticket includes one complimentary Outer Range draft beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverage, and select performances feature live pre-show music from local musicians in the lobby.

The summer/fall 2026 Love for the Locals lineup includes:

Additional Love for the Locals performances will be announced on a rolling basis.

Love for the Locals shows are also included in the Vilar's "Pick 3" and "Pick 5" bundle packages, which offer 10–15% off when you purchase multiple shows together — a great way to make a full season of live performance even more affordable.

Vail Dance Festival | July 31 – August 10, 2026

The Vail Dance Festival is widely regarded as one of the premier dance events in the world, and it offers more ways to engage at little to no cost than you might expect.

Free Events
  • Dancing in the Streets brings the Festival's extraordinary artists out of the theater and into Vail Village for pop-up performances throughout the festival. These are completely free and open to everyone — just be in the village and keep your eyes open. It's one of the most magical aspects of the Festival, and it doesn't cost a thing.
  • Dancing in the Park is another free community performance during the Destival, taking place at the Avon Performance Pavilion in Nottingham Park. It offers a relaxed, outdoor setting to celebrate world-class dance and community.
Affordable Ticketed Events
  • Dance for $20.26 offers reserved seating at a full festival performance for just $20.26 — the Festival's annual accessible-price ticket event designed to bring the main stage experience within reach for as many people as possible.
  • Conversations on Dance and Master Classes are both affordably priced and offer something beyond a performance: an inside look at the art form itself. Conversations on Dance features intimate, candid discussions with Festival artists and Master Classes let you learn directly from our world-class dancers and choreographers. As an added bonus, attending either a Conversations on Dance session or a Master Class earns you a raffle ticket for a lululemon merchandise giveaway.
Ticket Specials & Discounts

The Vail Dance Festival goes out of its way to make the festival accessible for all ages and stages of life:

  • Kids 12 and under are free on the lawn when accompanied by an adult.
  • Students and teachers receive $10 tickets to festival performances.
  • Pay Your Age allows guests ages 18–30 to pay their age for reserved seating at select performances.

Community Arts Access Program

If you're an Eagle County resident and cost is still a barrier to attending a VVF arts event, the Community Arts Access Program is here to help. Through this program, locals can apply for free tickets via an online lottery system to Amp Summer Concerts, Vail Dance Festival performances, and select shows at the Vilar Performing Arts Center. No need to miss out on world-class arts just because of finances. Ticket winners are chosen through a randomized lottery.
