Did you feel the incredible energy of the nonprofit Vail Valley Foundation's GoPro Mountain Games this past weekend?

We sure did.

And so did tens of thousands of others. Look no farther than the wide-open smiles (and wagging tails!) visible throughout Vail Village, Lionshead, Minturn, and all the active venues of this event which has called Vail, Colorado, home for 22 years.

"Across the board, this was a wonderfully successful GoPro Mountain Games," said Dave Dressman, Event Director of the GoPro Mountain Games for the Vail Valley Foundation. "From the concerts to the sponsor activations, thousands of amazing athletes and the smiles on the faces of everyone from age 8 months to 80 years old, everyone was having a great time in the mountains and we couldn't be happier. The Mountain Games is a wonderfully unique event that Colorado and the entire outdoor industry can be very proud of.”

The event is hosted each year by the nonprofit Vail Valley Foundation, which works year-round on the event with a wide array of partners to create the best all-around mountain experience available anywhere in the world.

“What a phenomenal weekend,” said Mike Imhof, President of the Vail Valley Foundation. “This event is a testament to the amazing partnerships we have with Vail Mountain and Town of Vail who trust us with the keys to the kingdom over the course of the event, and we’re grateful to them and all our partners, and our volunteers, who help us put on this incredible festival. Our VVF team deserve the highest credit, too. They work incredibly hard on this all year round, and their efforts have led to the best year yet and a great celebration of our unique mountain lifestyle.”

It's hard to entirely capture the overflowing good vibes of the GoPro Mountain Games, but these (preliminary) metrics help put the event in perspective.

  • 90,000+ spectator visits
  • 4,500+ athlete registrations
  • 5,500+ Mountains of Music at The Amp attendees
  • 300+ volunteers
  • 100+ sponsor activations
  • 22 dogs adopted in partnership with Eagle Valley Animal Services
  • 2 years old: youngest participant
  • 85 years old: oldest participant
  • 34 average participant age

We can't wait to share more stories, videos, and photos with the international outdoor world in the coming days (and throughout the year).
