Technical Director | Vilar Performing Arts Center

The Vail Valley Foundation (VVF) is seeking a Technical Director with primary expertise as a Lighting Designer or an Audio Engineer for the Vilar Performing Arts Center (VPAC) in Beaver Creek, Colorado to lead and manage the Production Department. This position will oversee the daily theater technical needs. They will advance all incoming events for technical needs in coordination with the Production Manager. They will provide the highest level of customer service at all times, respond to real-time staff and guest feedback, and work to deliver solutions as quickly as possible. This position reports to the General Manager at the VPAC.

  • At least 4 years road house or touring experience or equivalent.
  • Highly organized individual with show advance, budgeting knowledge and employee supervision experience.

  • Oversight of theater technical needs.
  • Advance all incoming events for technical needs in coordination with Production Manager.
  • Supervision of all production crew.
  • Assist Production Manager in hiring and training of new production crew.
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of facility’s equipment.
  • Working closely with touring crews to facilitate their needs and tying in of their equipment.
  • Provide Lighting Design for all events including: concerts, corporate events, and other situations where a touring LD is not present.
  • Or act as House Audio Engineer for all events including: concerts, corporate events and other situations where a touring Audio Engineer is not present.
  • Coordinate show needs with other VPAC departments including Hospitality, Artists Services, Facility Management and House Management.
  • Oversee technical department budget, expense and capital expenditures.
  • Manage FOH and guest techs during events.
  • Oversight of sound checks and ensuring adherence to sound decibel policy.
  • Operate audio and/or lighting system when necessary or appropriate.
  • Repair and maintain theater technical equipment.
  • Manage technical equipment inventory.

This is a salaried, full-time year-round position eligible for all VVF employment benefits.

Salary range: $65,000-75,000 annually
