About the Youth Foundation's First Notes Program
First Notes is a music education program inspired by Venezuela’s network of youth orchestras known as El Sistema. First Notes began in the Vail Valley in 2009, serving second graders at Avon Elementary School. In the 2013-2014 school year, First Notes served one hundred and twenty second-fifth graders at Avon Elementary School and Homestake Peak School. First Notes meets several days a week as part of The Youth Foundation’s PwrHrs after-school programming. First Notes provides a safe and nurturing environment to build self-esteem and positive social behavior by using music as a vehicle for social change.
